Leo Laporte Shits on a Sponsor… Again

The TWiT-Sponsor relationship illustrated

It’s no secret that Leo Laporte has a love-love relationship with his sponsors. He wouldn’t be able to take all the vacations he does if they didn’t buy ads. More importantly he wouldn’t be able to endlessly brag about all the vacations he took if they didn’t buy ads. So why does it seem that Leo Laporte is always trying to sabotage this one-sided teet suck-fest?

Hilton Goring wants us to stop following him around

Leo Laporte has a marked history of constantly shitting on sponsors. Over the years we have compiled a list of victims, including but not limited to: ZipRecruiter, Rocket Mortgage, and Ring. It appears that the latter two learned their lesson and severed ties. Still others eventually realized their return on investment wasn’t coming and cut their losses. And as we noted at the beginning of this year, roughly 40% have already jumped ship.

It was just a matter of time before Sophos became the target of Leo Laporte’s ire. We think this is related to TWiT losing long-time sponsor ESET NOD32 back in 2013. Since then Leo Laporte has consistently shitted on home antivirus software on his radio show. Watch the video above to see the two-faced Leo Laporte both praise and shit on Sophos in the same week without even realizing it.

  1. I don’t think Leo shit on a sponsor directly like he has done to other sponsors. However, he did contradict himself based on these clips.

With someone like Leo, you don’t need to resort to clickbait to get a headline.

Thank you for your constructive criticism. Going forward I will ensure the Title more accurately reflects the Subject Matter, as many TWiT shows already do.

  2. I don’t watch TWIT anymore, I regret that I spent 5 years watching it but any who , the NOD 32 anti-virus was promoted on The Tech Guy which isn’t a Leo based created show and has to promote things that the companies tell you to do. While logically you see the contradiction, he is just doing his job.

  3. Okay, it’s almost like it isn’t american culture to put a happy face on when representing something and add layers of bullshit, such as in job interview . Another Totaldrama bust. I still fucken hate u Leo.

  4. Whoever posted this TD.NET article doesn’t understand what was being said. Leo’s sponsor Sophos was talking about their firewalls and other hardware IPS. The Windows 10 anti-virus commentary was about who needs an AV product apart from Microsoft. Two totally unrelated things. If you are going to fault him, at least get a clue to show you know what you are talking about.

  5. Lisa got into an argument with Allison Sheridan, a former TWiT contributor who has appeared on TNT, iOS Today, Macbreak Weekly, and Tech News 2Night in the past (https://twit.tv/episodes?credits_people=97541), over TWiT’s advertising. I think she still appears on Tom’s shows from time to time.

    Here’s the thread: https://twitter.com/lisadlaporte/status/1109182759786835968

I am getting really sick of tech shows catering to men’s products. Men’s razors, then men’s socks, then men’s underwear. But one of my favorite shows, @iOSToday on the @TWiT network is now advertising for erectile dysfunction drugs. Do they even realize women are in tech?

    Lisa Laporte
    @lisadlaporte
Of course we do, women benefit as much as men from @getroman products #sponsor – and check it out – they added a women’s line Rory. Check out our sponsor list that’s over 40 advertisers. There is only 1 that is for men only.

    Allison Sheridan
    @podfeet
I’m glad you sent the sponsor list, Lisa, that really is good. I guess if I ever heard woman-only ads on any tech show it would feel better. I know you guys briefly did jewelry and that was great, but it’s been so many years. I’m not just pointing at TWiT, it’s many tech shows

    Lisa Laporte
    ‏@lisadlaporte
Then don’t tag my network as I don’t see you tagging those who you apparently have issues with. You want female only brands on tech networks? Why? 99% of our ads are for both and with a less than 5% female audience you won’t see it. Complain to brands-they are the ones buying.

    Allison Sheridan
    ‏@podfeet
I do called out other networks. I never asked for female-only brands. Happy with so few female listeners, that’s your choice. Want to appeal to a more listeners, perhaps improvements possible. What brands should I complain to? ED brand has every right & need to advertise.

    Lisa Laporte

Our network is growing, we’re quite successful so I will take my improvement advice from someone who knows how to grow a network & not just tweet unwarranted, ignorant complaints.

  6. He did indirectly hit Blue Apron last week on TWiT, which is no longer a sponsor. Did anyone notice they’re gone? Anyway, he’s now shilling for Hello Fresh, a name I sure want to do business with. “We used to have Blue Apron (which used the be the bestest foodses ever!) but now we’re with Hello Fresh who has the bestest foodses ever!”

Bull. Admit you go to Jack In The Box like everyone else, Leo. Keto is nothing. Any dog can tell you about an all-meat diet. Yummy rawhide snacks and pig ears.

    1. Featured in the NYT as well for you liberal cunts like Dr. Mom. I hope Leo addresses this, as he gave a lot of airtime to and blew so much smoke up Clayton’s ass.

Turns out he and his lovely wife Natalie are bullshit artists. Hopefully when he gets locked up or loses all of his funds she gets out on the street and sells that ass.

  7. Can you clarify this Clayton Morris business with TWIT? Was this guy on TWIT in the past saying he buys properties to rent out? And it’s a way of building financial wealth as opposed to collecting a paycheck?
    It sounds news worthy.

He was always bragging on Twit about his real estate ventures and kind of insinuated he was a very wealthy from it. Leo of course lapped that shit up.

Well 95% of the guests on Twit are either fraudsters, bullshit artists or just general failures in life

So we should be appreciative of the one shining light of authenticity aka the Public Intellectual aka King of CUNY aka Mr BuzzMachine aka Public Parts aka member of the presitigious Transatlantic High-Level Working Group on Content Moderation and Freedom of Expression committee aka Professor J. Jarvis

  9. Just a probable thing to watch for is once Steve Gibson puts the final touches on SQRL and it gets publicly released this should create an interesting conflict with Leo and his professed love of LastPass.
With Lisa being Lisa, will she intentionally make Leo do one of his five-minute babbling LastPass commercials before or after when Steve will be doing a segment on the release of SQRL?

Ha! Steve finish SQRL. Dude, you get the internet hilarity award for the day. Next you’ll be telling us he’s about to wrap up Spinrite 6.1 and on the verge of also completing v7.

  10. Can somebody explain whatever happened to Harry’s (the razor company)? They were the BIG THING for Steve Gibson and just about every show — and then they totally disappeared.

  11. Leo is a minor player.
On a recent TWIT (approx June 30), he made several comments about President Trump and the Huawei security issues which he first said didn’t really exist.
Shortly after going on and on about it, he must have read something on a news feed that confirmed that there are indeed security issues and then changed his mind. Any normal person would have read the information they were going to talk about first, and before forming an opinion.
He is a typical overeducated liberal with a very high opinion of himself. I used to listen to almost all of his shows, but became very disgusted with the political references from he and other hosts. I won’t use his sponsors, and have unsubscribed from the podcasts.
