Even Laporte is Sick of Drones on Know-How

The formerly popular show Know How has continued showing declining ratings since the departure of the host and creator Iyaz Ahktar. The initail concept was a compelling weekly rotation of various tech-how-to topics. The program was a success, but it truly shined in one other area. It had various episodes that were monster hits on YouTube and with proper management or a CEO at the helm of TWiT, that could have been parlayed into an influx of TWiT viewers.

Total Drama has been on this show’s case for some time. TD has often ridiculed the current iteration of Know How for doing the same depleted topic for well over a year; drones.

Avid TD reader Leo Laporte has finally accepted the critique put forth by this blog. In the video below you will see his disgust with how this show was ruined. The secret to success is not droning on for one entire week about propellers, another week on motors, and yet another on drone cameras. The entire fan base has been driven away. This is why the show rests uneasily on the chopping block.

Unfortunately, the current host slash 1920s radio announcer impersonator has decided that the ratings have declined because of the set. His solution is to move the hands on how-to show to a round table discussion format.

  1. I have moved from passive dislike to active. Padre appearing on sinking show TNSS to shout about drones triggered an instinctive ‘duck and cover’ move.

In this case ⌘-w and offending voice was banished.

  3. Wow, a million views?

If Leo was smart he’d have gone the YouTube route. Decrease overhead and all that. But nah, Lisa has to sell ads herself so they can’t monetize their YT.

  4. The video reminds me, Bryan Burnett that hairy ape needs to cool it with the sound effects. The sad trombone / crickets were funny at one point, but not anymore thanks to him.

He should get a new voice too.

  5. Great, dibs on Leo’s sweet, sweet Collins 550A AM transmitter!

Party time! A fifth of Jack, a plate of biscuits ‘n gravy, a little twangy Conway Twitty music, an Optimod 9000 and a crystal for a pirate frequency would do it right proud.

    1. Fuck man. If I was any of the hams that gave Leo anything I’d be so pissed. Especially the guy that rebuilt the transmitter. What a kick in the gut when Leo admitted that he would never use his license. It became so obvious that Leo was stroking Heil for free microphones and whatever else he could get.

I think Heil got the better deal. Ham Nation might not be interesting to a lot of people but it is more than a few steps up from the usual TWiT productions in quality. He gets free advertising for his products and his hobby. Isn’t it interesting how well run a podcast can be on the “network” when there aren’t Soup stains on it?

      1. The Collins was rebuilt by Mike Dorrough, a real legend in the radio biz older hams and engineer types like yours truly still look up to. I should rightly remove the heathen Optimod from the Twit Drama Pirate Radio air chain immediately and substitute a Dorrough DAP 310, which would modulate the old box very nicely indeed. Bob Heil and Dorrough are cool guys and nice guys, and Leo Laporte can still eat a dick.
