Leo Laporte Announces TWiT Eastside Studio Will Be a Literal Sweatshop

In a departure from the usual, there are two videos below.

Leo Laporte and Yoko Lisa Kentzell Laporte
The Walrus and Yoko

Leo Laporte famously cares nothing for his employees, but this may take the cake — sorry Tonya.

The new Eastside studio doesn’t have enough power to air condition the studio and the office space, forcing a Yoko’s Choice. Master planner Lisa Kentzell Laporte couldn’t manage to get appropriate facilities infrastructure in place in time for the move.

For more on the air conditioning situation, lets go straight to the walrus in suspenders’ mouth.

Sorry, TWiT employees! Sweat it out, thinking about Leo’s $22,000 cruise. I’m sure they had something better to spend their money and time on.

“Let the rest of them suffer.” Nice, Leo Laporte. Nice.

  1. Typical rookie mistake… they didn’t want to spend money on a real project manager and thought they could do it themselves! LMAO.

Now the poor employees will suffer, and don’t forget the old and infirm visitors who will fainting left and right. It’s going to be a real spectacle next week. Won’t you join us?

    1. The best part of all of this is, she’s trying to sell her services for doing things like this, to the general public.

I wouldn’t hire her to organize a high school’s car wash, watching this train wreck. They’re moving probably over a million in tech to a new site, and the AC isn’t up to spec? Any other situation, she would have her flat ass fired, instantly.

He’s setting himself up for a huge liability with fire, with this. It’s not safe to run that much equipment without proper cooling – and since that buck toothed bimbo is in charge of safety precautions at this site, I’d worry about inadequate fire prevention.

I live near where they’re broadcasting from. It gets fucking HOT there. I see power supplies melting down in that studio, and the whole place burning to the ground – and hopefully none of his poor employees will be in the building when the inevtiable happens.

At minimum, they’re going to lose a lot of that tech to overheating – things like video mixers (they probably use a TriCaster), HDs, servers, cameras – they’re all very sensitive to heat. When they burn through 10 or 20 grand in boards, will that housewife turned CEO finally get her shit together and do her job right? Nahhhhh. Leo will just blame it on the landlord, and shove a couple more thousand calories down his gullet, while pawing over a new camera, sitting his fat ass in the AC in his McMansion.

It’s fucking awesome, how well these two bimbos are tanking TwiT every week. Maybe that crow magnon browed monstrosity with tits can find work as a corporate hitwoman after this – instead of burning a company down for insurance money, hire her incompetant ass as CEO or CFO – business will be gone in 3 quarters or less. Viola.

If I was just a touch more cyncial, I’d think Leo was doing this on purpose, to get a big insurance payout, but he’s not smart enough to pull something like that off. It would take effort.

  2. They also gave us a taste of what it’s like owning, I mean leasing, a Tesla.

Leo drives like a geriatric old man, but gun owner Lisa has already taken the Tesla to 100mph. Fascinating.

  3. Check out the DVR right after iOS today to get Leo talking about the shitstudio.

Bonus content: padre being too lazy to actually walk around the studio, and riding a powered bike instead (also too lazy to stand on one of the segways, i guess)

  4. I hope there is a brown out that will fry all of their equipment when they power all of the studio lights and everything else. Remember when CeHO wouldn’t let Erik RIP! power up the studio to do his light night show? This is payback and Karma.

    FU Soup!

    1. They don’t need a brownout. All they need is a 110 degree day (common where they are), and that big metal roof overhead, and all that heat producing tech.

Leo’s gonna be broadcasting from a MacBook in his house after a couple weeks of that.

  5. Lisa has to be either very very stupid or really cheep… Or both!! How hard is it to hire a electriction to come in and survey the units panal and the pull to the panal??? And Leo tries to blame the lack of amps to the building being sold!!! So you downsized, 50%, didn’t Lisa sign the checks?? So your old shit house was running, let’s say just for grins, $10,000 a month in amperage charges, and the new east end crap house had a rated capacity of, let’s say, 1/4 of the old shit house, you’d think that little bell between her thighs would ding a ling every so slightly as to the mis match of Amps required in the new east end crap house….

      » Quote comment

  6. Sounds to me like they were too cheap to hire an electrician to cater to their needs and they are going in and only using what electricity the new space provides without increasing the capacity. Can’t wait to hear all the box fans running in the background in every video. 😛

And yeah, I also think brown outs are in their future. Should be interesting.

  7. The look on Megan Morrones face said it all. She knew that Leo was making an excuse for not doing the all important due diligence when when it comes to moving a business that consumes more current than a normal business in such a small property.

Is there a betting pool on how many hours before the porcine members of staff start complaining and becoming irritable and how many hours before King Porker himself Chief Chipolata Laporte stands making shitty comments about the Landlord and how long it is taking for the transformers to be upgraded?

I’m sure that by Tuesday afternoon the bulbous ball bag will be giving the landlord a huge slagging off.

Hey, why no padre stories? No one watches his shows or reads his tweets anymore? I know he is free but still.

I don’t believe they didn’t hire an electrician. Don’t they have a fan who is an electrician? Russel works free, how about him?

  15. Find it amusing that TWIT is actively enforcing copyright and pulling down videos. So much for Creative Commons. I have a few videos of the last New Years eve and Leo getting his butt tattooed that still exist. Maybe it’s because I didn’t try to monetize them? Seems that would fit the letter of the CC license.

As for the general situation. I feel bad for anyone that has to work there but I can only have so much sympathy since I live in Phoenix and it’s been 110F outside the past couple of days. Oh yeah and I can’t afford to turn on the AC. Try editing video in those conditions.

Maybe there needs to be a little suffering to expose what a moron the CeHo really is.

      » Quote comment

    1. I don’t think it’s cause of monetizing reasons. I believe they are ones to where they are quite incriminating and can’t blame TD’s amateur edits.

For example, the part about the no air conditioning. That’s quite incriminating as it opens up potential OSHA violations.

Then there is the other one with Virginia Heffernan. I’m sure this one got taken down due to damage control and tipping off Virginia.

This is just proof that the TWIT staff are personally worried whenever they see a truth exposed on this website. I know that Leo does read these posts. So I will say this:

Leo, the only reason I am critical is that you have turned your career into greed. Things were a lot better before the brickhouse, You alienate your dearest friends such as JCD. Lisa has truely ruined you and I hope you see the truth one day. I hate advocating divorce, but won’t miss her when she is gone.

        » Quote comment

    2. I think their creative commons license states no modification so a clip would be against the license.
However, it would still be fair use. It is ironic that they used to complain all the time about getting takedown notices when they use clips for news but when someone does it to them they have no problem issuing the takedown notice.

        » Quote comment

      1. Fair use would be if you were doing your own editorial and showed a clip as evidence to your statements. On its own, a clip isn’t fair use. Take the text from the post, read it into the video, and then play clip. Then it’s fair use. Do you rmember when Richardya would do those text to speech into videos. You could at least do that. Make it clear it’s a news report.

It will still get pulled, but you can dispute it and have it returned.

        2. Creative Commons doesn’t mean public domain. There are terms of use. Just showing a clip violates those terms. For a proper fair use you need to do your own commentary in a video that is much longer than the clip you use. Like news people.

  17. This new studio does not sound like a permanent place to stay. Small and cramped, no A/C, electric problems… It’s almost like they are planning something.

Wouldn’t surprise me if a convenient accident happens there and someone gets a nice insurance payout.

      » Quote comment

    1. It could mean they see the writing on the wall and this is the last stop before things go under. Why bother investing in a new studio (AC, etc) if you don’t plan to be there more than 6 months to a year.

20 years ago I worked at a video production company, and the owners were shady as hell and totally incompetent to boot. They once tried to hide an entire editing suite and claimed it was stolen just so they could get the insurance money. The insurance company figured out they were trying to scam them and told them if the equipment didn’t return by X days, they would call the police on them, and low and behold, the edit suite returned in tack the next day.

I bring this story up because I’m not sure L&L would pull insurance fraud. That is too risky and neither of them are smart enough to pull it off. Milking advertisers, throwing ads on any garbage show they think of, and selling crappy merchandise is L&Ls business model.

But desperate times call for desperate measures, so maybe insurance fraud is the next step from here.. *shrug*

        » Quote comment

      1. I’m not saying that Lisa and Leo want to actually stage an accident or commit fraud. I don’t want to think that way about anyone, not even this “lovely” couple.

What I think is that what they’re doing is completely irresponsible to their employees, audience, and the brand itself. However, it appears that Leo and Lisa will win regardless if the new studio somehow operates for a while or if burns down because Leo was too cheap to actually maintain it.

I agree that this will be their last stop. It’ll be easy for Leo to write off TWiT one day if this new studio is really as bad as it is described to be.

          » Quote comment

  18. Two words…. Dumb Asses. Leo and Lisa should know how much power they are going to need for the studio and the heating and air condition systems. I predict one of two things is going to happen, the first is that the TWiT studio will burn down because of an overload of the circuits and wiring in which case I am prepared to travel to Petaluma standing outside of TWiT singing “The Roof The Roof The Roof Is On Fire!” and the second thing Pacific Gas and Electric is going to show up to turn off the power because they are overloading the local power network by not using the right voltage and amps.

These people are airline pilots and shows are often done from hotel rooms. News, opinions, stoeies, listener feedback. With just laptops. Sometimes just a smartphone. Live with a chatroom. They have their own phone app. Video and audio quality is fine. And it is more interesting than almost any show on TWIT. No studio, no Tricaster, no hot lights. But great personalities and they know what they are talking about because they live it every day.

With temps reaching 105+ in the shop OSHA was called, and the owner was made to allow bottled water on the shop floor during the summer. He was the worse boss I ever had btw.
