In Memoriam: The TWiT Departed Remembered

God’s little miracles will all be dearly missed at TWiT in the coming year; as their contributions have been legendary. Some of them will appear on “Before You Buy,” but most will find places as outside producers. Here they are: the Roll Call of TWiT’s finest. They have all gone on to a better place:

  • Brian Brushwood
  • Lamarr Wilson
  • Justin Robert Young
  • Amber MacArthur
  • Iyaz Akhtar
  • Tom Merritt
  • Sarah Lane
  • Shannon “Snubs” Morse
  • Chad Johnson “OMGChad”
  • Gina Trapani

Not included in the “In Memorium” video due to space reasons:

  • Don Reisinger (Edie Reingold)
  • Treadmill Guy
  • Jeff Stewart

Thanks for all the laughs, the tears, the joy, the pain, the sorrow, the late nights, the early mornings, the hair in a bun, the hair over your shoulder, pretending you liked Leo, faking a smile when he harassed you…for everything you’ve ever done and everything you’ll ever be, do, think, taste, smell, eat and drink. Our hats are off to you, the TWiT Departed. You are the gems in the crown of the tech world. The shining beacons of truth and creativity. Oh. Wait. They already hired your replacements? Well that was fast.

      1. I’m pretty sure it’s because Lamarr wanted to stop. The long-form format isn’t his brand. He took his style of a youtube show to Mashable, if I remember correctly.

Of course, Twit said it was because they couldn’t get viewers after Leo handed off hosting duties to Chad. Who really knows?

  1. Where is Dane Golden? Also the girl who did the original studio. Also Merrit’s wife. The guy who was unceremoniously let go what’s his name, Lanigan. Lisa Bettany the photographer and the guy who followed her. Both gone. Outrageous shortfall of fallen. I’m sure there are others.

    1. Colleen Kelly, who left for a job with Google….Tom’s wife, Eileen Rivera….Eric Lanigan…Roy Maxwell (Maxwell’s House)….Lisa Bettany, who basically hit the lottery with an iPhone photography app. Some left on their own, others were booted.

  2. So in 14 months, Twit went from a true all-star cast to a Léo & the priest joint with some inert gum thrown in.

I hope the bottom line was worth it.

Personally, I took December (and a bit of a renovation project that needed some series extra sound-tracking) to listen to a bit of Merritt’s 2014 output – playing the spoons like nothing ever happened. DTNS fits like a glove.

Paul’s the guy who brought me to podcasts when he and Léo started WW, now he’s the only person I still care for producing content with Twit.

    1. I agree. Paul is the only reason I listen to any TWiT anything.

And he’s on What The Tech, and you can tell he’s doing that because he eventually knows TWiT will implode. Now, one thing that protects him though is that WW is one of TWiT’s top 3 shows, so I doubt that’ll be under the axe any time soon.

This comment, out of all of them, makes me sad.

  3. Liz Romero, while not really an on-air person (except when Leo made her wear a classic Star Trek uniform that was way too short) also left, she appears to be in NYC with Iyaz

    1. Is their a picture of Liz in that trekie uniform? That could be a TD news article, all the skimpy clothing or non clothing Leo has forced his female workforce to model and show off on air!!! I think he even got Calie Lewis to model a wet TWiT tee shirt in the early years!!

        1. Thanks Phil, I knew there had to be a photo … Leo knew exactly what “look” he wanted by having Liz prance around, and though a gun wasn’t actually held to her head, one was pointed at her Palau check. Leo is a creep!!!

    1. It’s hard enough keeping track of all the hosts, Jeff. No way can people remember all the editors, engineers, assistants, sales people, etc who went through TWiT’s revolving doors.

    1. Cammie Blackstone, Leo canceled the show, but had to bring it back after it won a webbie award, I’m just guessing that Lisa was just getting her meat hooks into the programming and axed the show but had to eat crow when it was proven to be a popular podcast.

  4. MM was on with Leo(I forget the show or context) not long ago, maybe less than a year, and as Leo does so often, he asked Merlin to show up more often, come back on while live streaming. Leo does this all the time, tries to schedule guests to come back while the broadcast is ongoing. Very annoying , to the guest and the audience. What’s the guest going to say on air…” no I don’t want to ever be seen or heard on your stupid TWiT network ever again”, most just laugh Leo off and go away quietly.

  5. What happened with Don Reisinger? I hadn’t actually heard him on TWiT much in years. He was very frequent in the early days, but not so much in the last couple of years. Did something specific go down?
