Lisa Laporte Cares About “Pissing off the trolls”

Small-minded Lisa Laporte is obsessed with trolls.
Small-minded Lisa Laporte is obsessed with trolls.
Poor Lisa Kentzell Laporte thinks she’s able to piss us off. We’re not mad. We’re disappointed that Leo Laporte let her ride the TWiT gravy train right into the ground.

Does anyone remember the overflow #twitlive chat room? When was the last time that was used? Years ago. Remember when shows would have live audiences? We do too. Remember when people would call Theeeeeeeeee Tech guy? We do too.

It’s truly sad. We’re not mad, Lisa. We’re sad that Leo let you ruin TWiT. You are an evil succubus from which Leo can never recover. Enjoy your sex swing, you nasty bitch.

  1. I’m not pissed off at all. In fact, I’m glad I saw the light early with TWiT and stopped listening. There is far better people out there and content, and people who actually care and are passionate about what they’re doing.

TWiT refers to us as ‘trolls’ but many of us are former fans, dedicated fans who loved TWiT once upon a time.

    Read my name, Lisa.

  2. It was stated on an earlier comment on another post… The people that used to go onto TwitLive chat, for the most part, put up with the chatMods Ass-hole-ishness. We knew they were assholes, especially Dan. But when it came time to offer some constructive criticism on the goings on at Twit, you only need to get kicked out a few times to say Fuk it, why bother. I used to participate a lot on Chat. No more. It’s been way over a year. Maybe more. Leo said it… we are nothing to him.

I recall in the early TWIT days when I was relegated to the TWIT2 chatroom due to overflow.

  3. Hey everyone, I work at TWiT and produce TNSS and Triangulation as well as some of your other other favorite shows. Lisa watches the stream all day (when she is in the office) and communicates with Leo using GChat.

On the day your posted screen grab was taken, Leo was talking about how great a CEO Lisa was on the live stream. Lisa was asking Leo to stop discussing this because she thinks it pisses you guys off.

I can assure you that she is the CEO. But, to be fair, Leo makes all the real decisions. She is really nice to everyone. If you have any guest ideas for Triangulation please e-mail me at karsten@twit.tv and please please watch the screen savers show. If that show does not do well at least three people will be let go. Including me!

Hmmm, she cares about trolls and doesn’t want to piss them off, yep that makes complete sense. You may want to start searching Craigslist for a new job, maybe Petaluma Market .

    3. We would watch it if it was good. It’s a desperate grab on trying to stay relevant but he is not relevant anymore in the tech industry. If he was smart, he would sell his company or hand the reigns to somebody else.

      >I can assure you that she is the CEO. But, to be fair, Leo makes all the real decisions.

That comment looked like it might shorten your employment at TWiT, then you followed up with –

      >She is really nice to everyone.

Nice pivot which may well have saved your bacon.

  4. Some of this actually started before Lisa. I was once kicked from chat after using “booth babes” in a sentence. Partly, it was clueless mods but partly it was Leo who approved of their odd over-reactions but encouraged the double entendres by his own comments.

If anyone around should have known how to handle a chat room, it was Leo. He still believed the team at Screen Savers was there to screen and handle problems before they got to him. Then, he let them get to him. He should have known? Actually, he did know; he simply couldn’t help himself.

Tossing out a wonderful lady like Abby’s mother and replacing her with a Lisa is typical of many middle-aged men. Shouldn’t our tech show leader show how a man with class would act? With all of Leo’s tech knowledge, many of us have continued to shake our heads at his ongoing lack of judgment.

  5. What’s funny is their mentality of what us “trolls” are.

I am actually still somewhat a fan of twit. The main reason I’m here is because Leo and Lisa have always thought that any criticism about the network is a direct attack at them – when actually its quite the opposite.

I would love to have seen Leo listen to people like me (and like many people reading this) and make changes to the way things were done when there was obviously a problem.

Unfortunately at this point all that shit is too far gone and TWiT is past the point of no return…

  7. Lots of kinds of trolls. Some of the stuff some of them put in the twit chat is nasty. If that’s what a person aspires to, that’s what they’ll be. Most of the people here aren’t like that and never will be. I doubt Lisa was talking about you.

      » Quote comment

    1. But the point is, Leo is never talking about the people who simply abuse him. He’s talking about the people who actually hold him to account, the people who point out his hypocrisy.

Leo never had anything to say about “trolls” before, even though there have always been people who were simply nasty about him. He only started publicly mentioning trolls when people started to seriously criticise what he was *doing*.

And you can tell we have all hit a nerve – when people here pointed out that he showed a picture of his dick on his “Family Friendly” network, he claimed that TD had photoshopped the image. He lied. He outright lied about what he had done.

But the point was true – this is a guy who has exposed his sexual activities on his family friendly network before, and so by now he should’ve stopped showing his personal stuff on air. It’s right to point out how hypocritical he is, especially given how badly he treats people.

You know that of course, ‘fauxjournalist’, which is why you only post here to sneer at people who attack Leo. Even if no one on this site played around attacking people’s looks, you would still post the same sneers.

That’s your right, of course. Leo, however, bans people who do nothing more than offer positive criticism of his shows. One of the last times I was in the chat room, I saw someone post “Leo I think this story has gone on a bit too long, I really want to hear about [next story]”. A few seconds later, they were kicked for trolling. But that was their only message.

That’s the difference, right there. Leo thinks you’re a troll if you criticise him. And Lisa re-inforces that view all the time.

      1. The things I sneer at are lazy gross crass cheap shots. And going after family members who aren’t public figures. They aren’t to blame for Leo mentioning them. This site could be better and offer actual critical comments instead half irrational venting. Sometimes it lives up to its potential, but mostly the noise of its worst members make it impossible to find the good stuff. The comments are a lost cause, but I do hope the articles can rise up to be something great. It’s improved some. I hope that continues.

Anyone who is going to justify the the worst behaviors is not doing this place any favors. Being proud of it is baffling.

  8. “Your tumblr auth code is…”

Can he do a single show without revealing personal information? Luckily, that number can probably not be used for evil (Never been near tumblr) , but is anyone over there looking at what’s being broadcast? How hard would it be, with the free shit floating around that place, to set up dummy accounts for broadcasting purposes?

Oh, wait, we’re talking about TwiT. I’ve seen better production values on high school tv shows, done in the A/V room.

    1. The Sunday tech guy when he went into his google dashboard he showed his home address, then when Dr. Mom told him he said something like “Yeah I know, I don’t care” and then wiped it from the replay (obviously caring). What quasi literate moron doesn’t know google dashboard knows where your home is. Quality Tech reporting right there. You would think the (obviously) staged calls at least wouldn’t point him in the direction of releasing personal information.

    1. Leo claims he knows that twit is British slang for a douche, but I’m thinking he didn’t know when he picked the name.

Even This Week In… is a stupid, generic name. Anyone know who came up with the whole name/branding for the network originally? He had to stop using Revenge of TSS but who’s idea was the replacement?

I was thinking the same idea the other day. The whole “The Week In…” is dull and unexciting.

        1. “Twit” isn’t really English slang for ‘douche’ to be honest.

It’s much much milder than that. In fact these days, apart from parents who might use it in front of children in order to avoid swearing, “twit” is pretty much an affectionate insult, used to indicate that you’ve done something ever so slightly silly. It’s a way of saying “that was dumb”, but to a friend. These days you’re more likely to hear the word “twat”, which originally was slang for Dark Triangle but these days is how you call someone a “twit” if you’re a man and want to use a harder word.

Of course, maybe that’s what “douche” means in the US – but as an English guy, to me that word means you’re looking down on someone. It’s almost like saying “I don’t even like you enough to think of a proper insult”.

Is that how people use “douche” in the US? Certainly, in the UK “twit” isn’t even a particularly negative word.

That said, as soon as I first heard of “twit”, I couldn’t believe Leo had named his network after a word meaning “a bit dumb”.

Of course, the really dumb thing was, this guy who had been around TV networks, brands, rights and legal stuff for a long time, had never registered his own company name as a trade mark.

      2. Then Leo is an a-hole. According to the Oxford English DIctionary Twit =
        noun
        informal
        A silly or foolish person.

This is nowhere near the meaning of douche which is a person who is an a-hole creep/prick. Leo is one.

Twit is a goofball and somewhat endearing.

As for the New Screen Savers. There is no good explanation.

My problem with this sort of ‘concern’ is, there are 3 ways to deal with it and you’re choosing the wrong one.

1 is to ignore it – you don’t like it, so don’t take part.

2 is to join in the noise by posting your own form of sneers and attacks – that’s what you do. You add to the very thing you say you don’t like.

3, however, is to do what I do. Sure, there’s stuff I don’t like, but I also know that the vicious attacks on the TD people by Leo and his supporters, including calls to find them and physically assault them, far outweigh any of the more childish posts on here, and I have NEVER seen people like you going to Leo and complaining. The 3rd way of dealing with it is to try to add to the good stuff that’s here. And there’s a LOT of it.

You could do that. Any person who only posts to sneer has made a choice to add to the negativity and noise. Why not do what I do? Why not add your own take on what’s wrong and what could be done right, and have fun along the way?

You’ve obviously got strong opinions. Surely you can see that the bulk of what’s posted here is serious critical commentary? Why not add your voice to it? You can’t even really judge the comments – I run websites with comments, and IP address tracing shows that the same people who post “sneers” about my websites’ content also post sexually explicit comments. They do it to create a sense of distaste about the comments. I think you see the same sort of thing here – those really nasty comments posted about Lisa having sex are almost certainly posted by people who want others to look at the comments and walk away. It’s a standard tactic – if you can make the comments seem like a lost cause, you’ve won a sort of victory.

I think the TD writers should be less open with the comments policy – once I clamped down on similar comments, the entire tone of my websites changed in a massively positive way. But TD makes a point of not censoring, because they know that it’s only a short journey from deleting abuse to deleting comments you simply disagree with, in the same way Leo’s mods kick people out of the chat room for the most mild of criticism and call it “trolling”.

One final way to look at the stuff you hate is: hundreds of comments, mostly from the same people, have been added to this site condemning HelloWorld and others. The site’s writers clearly take the view, as do I, that almost all of that condemnation comes from people who have nothing to say about Leo’s sexual harassment and bullying of staff, the lies he tells about people who leave, the destruction of goodwill etc. so they’re not going to answer to such people.

In other words, none of your sneers at “lazy gross crass cheap shots” are going to change a thing here, because the site’s writers don’t listen to people who only complain about what one side does. Show that you’ve tried to stop Leo’s supporters from posting the home addresses of TD writers and you’ll have credibility.

Given that you aren’t going to have the effect you want, doesn’t it follow that you should try a different tactic?
