Father Robert Ballecer turns his back on Jesus

I'm quite sure Jesus would have not wanted these $250 headphones.
I’m quite sure Jesus would have not wanted these $250 headphones.

Father Robert Ballecer has turned his back on Jesus.

Padre walks in the footsteps of Jesus, but seems to have lost his way.

With each successive broadcast “LIVE from the show floor”at CES, the plump priest morphs more and more into the Gollum that we’ve long suspected him to be. He’s reporting on drones, optical VR, smart phones, OLED televisions…everything Jesus would have smashed. It’s all just so incongruous with Padre’s life at the church. His quest for the new, the cool, the next makes no sense as a man of God. Take for example the $250 Audio-Technica headphones, sure they sound good. But instead of coveting them, Padre should just refuse the goodie bags, the swag, the free parties and go feed the poor.

From the Wikipedia entry about the Society of Jesus:
In 1534, Ignatius and six other young men, including Francis Xavier and Peter Faber, gathered and professed vows of poverty, chastity, and later obedience, including a special vow of obedience to the Pope.

Jesus is weeping, Padre. Won’t you dry his tears?

  1. Good for him – the fewer religious people the better…

In a more serious note, I really don’t understand why a full time employee of the Church (Leo always says he is) has that amount of time to piss away on pointless “netcasts”. If I had employees who were doing 20 shows and reported live from CES, I would become a little suspicious that they might not really pull their weight at work…

Installing Skype for the pope some years ago (if that’s true) is probably the most religious act he has ever done…

    1. What everyone but you said. Small minds are like the same percentage of non believers, small. Don’t give me an IQ test either, I do 150’s, so don’t think your smarter. Were you not being serious?

  2. I like the Padre. Just last night, he tweeted his disgust for the Catholic League’s hateful, reactionary homophobe, Bill Donahue. If this is the new face of the Catholic Church, one which is out in the real world with the people, I’m into it.

  3. It surprises me, NOT!

The only God that Padre worships is the leader of the cult he is a true member of and spokesperson of “TWiT.TV” . His true God is Leo Laporte. He worships the very ground this monster slithers across.

Anyone that would boast that he has a hoard of barely used laptops and devices stored under his bed at the Friary and revels in playing with toys and the desire to weaponize drones with ANFO! Is this a desire of a man of God? To create a device that would have the functionality to cause harm and injury to others?

Padre Robert Ballecer SJ needs to reassess himself and what his true beliefs are and decide whether he wants to be a follow of the Cult called TWiT or whether he wants to focus on being a true man of God.

We cannot demand that he does so but we can pray for his soul and the souls of those that he comes into contact with.

  4. I find the Padre a hypocrite. First let me state that I think religion is for the ignorant and weak minded – so I see no value in his ‘higher’ calling. That being said, if he is at least going to claim he is a man of God and here to help others – he might try actually helping the poor, being the least bit humble, stop his obsession with material gadgets and toys, actually do some work for his parish and church – not just for Leo and to satisfy himself. As far as what he tries to convince himself at night – that he is hip, cool and oh so funny…No one is joining the catholic faith because a fat, CREEPY tech guy wanna be connects with them. All I see is a guy who is using abusing a system of ignorant donors of cash for his own personal gain and enjoyment while worshiping at the church of Leo .

Yeah people like Pasteur, Da Vinci, and Fr. Georges Lemaitre , are morons compared to you.

      1. Believing in a higher power requires a lot of work, most of it mentally. So simpletons can never get to this place. It took me until I was 30 and I thought about it for half that time.

  5. The church gets sincere donations from people and it goes to support this man so he can be on camera and work for Leo Laporte essentially free. All he does is take jobs away from someone who needs a job.
I am pro-religion but this is not right. Be an example, help people, do something meaningful. People don’t donate to the church so Leo can have his highest housed host worke free.

    1. The Church wouldn’t stand for that, just like you.

Leo pays him a salary, and then it goes directly to the church. The only donation being used here is Leo’s.

I think it’s legit to question Fr. Robert’s tech envy, but the money is on the up and up.

      1. Spot on, with the exception that for Keep it would be an expense not a donation. There isn’t a nonprofit in the USA that would give him a gift acknowledgement for taxes. they be too worried to get in trouble from the IRS

      2. You believe Leo? If you think the soupguzzler is donating a fair amount to the church you’re insane. The church is a nonprofit entity. They are not in the business of leasing employees. That whole story is ridiculous. I am sure whatever Leo donates will come out to below minimum wage. Leo hates religion.

        1. I have first hand life experience and knowledge that in some cases it does “lease” employees. So in this Leo is probably telling the truth.

            » Quote comment

          1. You have first hand experience? So the church makes electricians, actuaries and tech journalists priests and then leases them out? That doesn’t make much sense to me.

I could understand teachers, social workers and police but tech show hosts?? If true that is odd behavior.

          2. You know it is possible to have prior knowledge of a field before becoming a priest. So I’m not saying they “make them”. But many priest (especially in religious orders, like Jesuits) are asked to do many different jobs, from graphic design , it, and even general contractor type jobs. Jesuits tend to be VERY liberal , they even have a guy assign to screewrite in Hollywood.

        2. You don’t understand Jesuits, they are God’s Army. They go wherever they are needed to spread the word, previously the sword. They apparently believe there’s a benefit to doing this to engage tech viewers. I would think Padre would appear cool to most people, which is not the average persons view of the church.

  6. Not to give it any validity but in Thursday’s ‘Inside TWIT’ Leo and Lisa were discussing how Father Rob was likely to be called back by the Church, probably some time this upcoming year. I’m still completely confused about the whole situation as to why he’s ‘on loan’ to even work at TWIT.

    1. Actually to enhance the church’s PR, which given the last decade of disgrace wasn’t a bad experiment – but that ends this year as his bishop and ‘higher ups’ have big plans for the reverent rhino. L&L need to invest in talent REAL soon or head to Patreon

  7. Sorry – didn’t want to ridicule anyone’s faith in my previous comment, only point out that “turning ones back on Jesus” is not seen as a bad thing by everyone.

Did he ever justify why he spends all his time as a poor imitation of a tech journalist and an even poorer imitation of a programmer? Is he actually trying to make the Church look cool for the kids? Does he actually believe that would be the case? The only Church-related message he spreads out to me is “Join the catholic Church and help pay this over-large kid’s gadgets!”

    1. I get the sense it’s more about him. He seems to have a deep desire to be “the cool” kid. Maybe he was bullied too much as a kid?

        » Quote comment

      1. I’m sure his motivation is entirely about himself. He just loves to play with tech stuff and he loves even more to stand in front of a camera. Can’t blame him for either – vanity is common among loads of people, and if I had to swear a celebatary oath, I would also think about things like how much TNT fits on a drone.

I just wonder how he justifies this to his full time employer…

  8. Pretty much his job at the church is to be into tech and to learn about it to help out the church. His normal job is done on sunday.

If someone also into tech see him and says this guy in into this stuff maybe the church is more open it can help bring more people in.

    1. Yep, Fr Robert is mainly in recruiting / HR, and both high enough in the food chain and apparently with enough accumulated good will that a multi-year tour in tech journalism was deemed a plausible goodie by his superiors.

Now personally, I can’t help but wonder how someone so intelligent manages the dichotomy of dealing with high-end tech all day, and still keep faith, but if it works for him, hats off.

  9. The fat father worships at the altar of Narcissus. If he is in studio between shows, he will find a camera to put himself in front of or an open mic to speak into. Of course he will act as though it is purely coincidental, but his efforts at self-promotion (clandestine or not) are so blatantly obvious. The guy is a phony five ways to sunday.
