Walking in circles for three straight days, Mike Elgan approached scores of product representatives at Mobile World Congress who all had no clue who he was. In the broadcast industry (and in life), it is polite to introduce yourself when meeting a stranger.
And there’s no easier way in television to facilitate an easy introduction than to use what’s known as a mic flag—usually a little plastic box that surrounds the end of the microphone and identifies your broadcast outlet. That way people can trust you more and not just think you’re some asshole with a camera.
Here at TotalDrama HQ we’re trying to wrap our heads around why TWiT would spend all this money going to Barcelona and not work harder to get their “brand” out there.
I was devastated when they hired Mike Elgan. It was the final nail in the coffin of TNT for me. It makes me sad to this day.
At least now we have DTNS.

Mic flags are overrated, and not really necessary if you know how to ask questions and you’re somebody people want to talk to.

They both had vinyl stickers on their mics. I’m sure that was the best they could do at the time. Gum probably never even thought about it.

Nah, TWiT doesn’t use them at all. See also Padre and Dick at CES earlier this year. They get in the way, they fall off pretty easily, they’re just another thing to pack, and while having a CNN or NBC flag might get you access, a TWiT flag more than likely gets you lits of “What’s TWIT? You’re with Twitter?”

And by “never” I mean almost never. I’m sure there’s a vid or two out there where they’re using them to try them out…but I don’t think it was ever standard procedure.

Tom and Becky both had vinyl twit stickers on their mics. The fact the two most professional people on twit are the only ones to use some sort of mic flag isn’t a coincidence.

Seeing Padre and Dick’s video is actually very good. And entertaining. Has nothing to do with whether their is a mic flag or not on the mic. They are having fun. Mike’s coverage of Mobile World Congress is just painful to watch.

But mic flags do soften the blow against people you dont have a clue about.
Mic flags MATTER.

It’s simple math folks… it’s either proper coverage like the old CES days and Leo has to drive a Ford and vacation in San Diego, or its this shit and Leo gets to drive an Audi and vacation on the rivers of Europe.
It’s clear his priorities have changed, he no longer cares about the quality or reputation of his business but extracting the most personal gain he can. That’s clear, what’s open to debate is whether this was his plan a along or Lisa is the one who made him a money hungry cunt. I’m for the latter, he didn’t seem to be in it purely for the money until Lisa came along.

That pretty well sums up the whole downhill slide of twit.tv
