Leo says TWiT Guests are “Crappy”

Tee hee!
Tee hee!

We have always said Leo Laporte has no shame, but it appears he does. We can see in the video above that he didn’t want everyone to know his embarrassing secret: TWiT guests are crappy sometimes (most of the time we would argue) by his own admission, including next week’s Christina Warren (film_girl).

Epic Fuckup EffenDumb
Epic Fuckup EffenDumb

Thanks to the ineptitude of Tonya Hall and Jason C. Cleanthes (EffenDunn), we got to hear the shocking truth. Thanks for fucking everything up, Tonya, and thanks for being a constant fuck-up with audio levels and video switching, Jason!

you are talking about leo fucking laporke operation. he just gets it when he gets there because that’s how much he cares. apparently that’s how much effendunn and tonya care now too.

trickle down work production. poor ethic at top, poor ethic everywhere.

  1. That’s what you get for hiring the cheapest instead of the best candidate for the job.

Tonya was a radio host somewhere before coming to Petaluma to do Marketing Mavericks. That show got the axe but as is typical at the shitty TWiT operation they kept her desperate ass on as a guest booker.

EffenIdiot too was picked because he was a kiss ass from the chatroom, not because he was vetted as the best or even really good.

The whole operation is so damn low-brow. That’s what you get for making your cunty girlfriend the CEHo!

…let’s not forget the FATTEST. It turns out that Obese people have 8% less brain tissue than people of normal weight. Overweight people have 4% less brain tissue than people of normal weight. (Google it)
Bottom line…Fat people make poor choices when deciding what to eat and how much to eat. Fatties care less about the consequences of the their decisions are are generally lazy in the work environment. Hiring a Fat-ass is a poor decision. I’ve never hired one and never will.

  2. I thought the live feed didn’t matter, only the downloads did? So why does it matter when you record it? As long as you meet the deadline to post it for download why does it matter if you record at 2am or 5pm?

Would you get better guests if you recorded at 7pm on Thursday? Maybe you should think about that.

Its starting to appear that TwiT has run off all its dynamic contributors, JCD, Veronica and Ryan Block (obviously nothing public happened they just never appear anymore), Brushwood, I’m sure I’m missing tons of others who were really good…Its just sad, TwiT used to be special and unique.

    1. Brushwood? He’s a massive tool with no tech connection whatsoever. Nothing worse than an unfunny person who thinks they are hilarious.

Magicians masquerading as tech pundits aside, if we look at YT comments, even ‘normal’ viewers are mostly fed up with the lame panels.

I’m actually a diamondclub’r but his self-deprecation pisses me off. If your going to say something; Just Say It! 80% of the time he would start off with “So.. I’m an idiot so I’m probably wrong. But…” And continue to say something which be it Correct, Incorrect or just an Opinion would have been perfectly fine as part of the discussion. Instead, he constantly acted like this random outsider who would poke his head in, say a Bunch of stuff and backoff like he interrupted something and was sorry.. I like Brushwood but nobody in DiamondClub or even on the Twit network acted that way so persistently. And he still does it to a lesser extent (Still 50% I’d say) on CordKillers. For someone who is obviously full of confidence in front of crowds and on stage, it’s just embarrassing and disingenuous to hear him prematurely cower in a corner.

              » Quote comment

        1. Sorry, but I can’t agree. The only thing I remember of Brushwood on TWiT is him making lame jokes and laughing at them obnoxiously.

His level of tech punditry was the same as if I were to go on that show, not terrible but nothing insightful either.

So let’s agree to disagree I guess?

            » Quote comment

          1. The main thing I remember about Brushwood on TWiT is that he insisted on dominating the panel. Quieter types, like Dwight Silverman and many others, were drowned out by Brushwood’s overbearing personality. Almost every time Leo threw out a question, Brushwood would leap to answer first. He also interrupted others when they made the mistake of taking a breath which Brushwood exploited as an opportunity to regain focus.

In #twitlive I once criticized him for talking too much. (In those days, you could still post negative comments without being booted. You might or might not get a warning.) Brushwood who was also active in the chat responded that he knew more than the others on the topic under discussion so was entitled to more facetime. The problem with that was that he thought he knew more than everybody else on every subject.

I don’t think there are two more objectionable personalities than Brushwood and his partner whose name happily escapes me now.

Brushwood is also the ultimate phony. I once looked at his @ replies on Twitter. He replied to every Tweet, mainly from teenagers who were buying his overpriced branded merch, with shit like “Love you, man.” He was making his living as pied piper to an internet throng of gullible young kids. He probably still is.

              » Quote comment

          2. You bring up a good point, guest booking has always sucked on TWiT, even the days when Brushwood would still appear.

They need to find three panelists whose personalities work with each other, not against each other. Like a few weeks back when some idiot (Tonya?) booked Calacanis and Alex Wilhelm with Christina Warren on Skype. When you get three people who are all so far up their own ass, you get a volatile setting. The tension was so palpable, especially during the pre-show.

I don’t think TWiT has ever had amazing personalities, save for a few select people. But at least back in the day someone paid attention to the booking, now it’s just whoever is available. No JCD no problem, we got twice the Alex Lindsay goodness this week (sarcasm).

  3. I guess one good thing that can come out of this is that Christina Warren finds out she belongs on the crappy list and never makes an appearance on TWIT again.

  4. Another great article illustrating how hiring incompetent staff and not spending the extra money to secure real talent hurts your company in the end… from the “technical director” who doesn’t even know how to mute mics, to the “producer” who can’t Google an event date, all the way up to the incompetent “CEO” who enables it all. And let’s not forget the incorrigible owner who chooses to insult and disparage these people live on air. I can’t think of a more poisonous working environment.

  5. One more nail in the live stream coffin. Lisa will call a “all hands” meeting, not tell the owner and ban live mics in the studio. This will result in a site re-design to get the ” Future will be Streamed ” scrubbed from all posted videos.

  6. Very, very sad. “Mute those mics” and hold a piece of paper in front of the mouth … the old Leo would never considered such a move. He’s clearly stressed and probably because so many of the folks, competent and experienced, are no longer there to support him. The CEO probably had something to do with this situation.

And since things have gone downhill, it makes matters worse. I see nothing improving in any way.

Bourne said he didn’t think Leo had treated JCD badly and so he didn’t agree with me.

Fair enough, but it does show the problem of how loyalty can blind you to some fairly obnoxious failings in a person – anyone who judges Leo by normal standards knows that he was really shitty to JCD – it wasn’t just a laugh or a joke, it was nasty behaviour. But Leo generates a type of loyalty that makes people unable to see it, and Bourne is one of those who fails to see it.

Exactly. JCD never kissed Leo’s ass and called him out when necessary. I think once Leo achieved some level of success he expected that JCD would bow down to him. JCD never did and over time it probably ate at Leo resulting in his gradual decline in appearances onTWIT and the eventual banning even though he says JCD isn’t banned.

It’s just like that one episode back in the day when Leo was questioned by the one guest about whether or not the phone he was praising was given to him for free or if he bought it out of pocket. Leo flipped, told everyone to fuck off and ended the show. That right there was an early indication of what he was all about.

  16. I’m not sure you can say that he thinks Christina is “crappy” – it’s more likely that he means, the list as a whole is crappy. The one thing he’s definitely saying about her is, if she’s combined with other guests on a crappy list, she’s not good enough to carry the show.

For example, if she was replaced by John C Dvorak, so it’s the same rest of the crappy list but with JCD on it, Leo wouldn’t say it’s crappy, cos JCD can carry the whole show and turn a crappy group of guests into a good show.

But I don’t think he’s saying “everyone on this list is crappy”, I think he’s saying that the combined guest list is rubbish, and there’s no stand-out person, no one who can make a good show into a great show. And to be honest, that’s true of most panel shows – he’s been very lucky to have had a few regular guests who can elevate his shows so much, and it’s to his immense discredit that he’s driven them all away.

      » Quote comment

  17. By the way, I might’ve missed it in people’s comments, but did I hear right: one of his main show hosts is now the key guest booker for the show?

Was it always that way? If I heard that right, does this also mean that she books guests for other shows?

What does this tell us about the state of the network?

Anyone who’s been bored enough to follow my posts will know that I’m keen on getting real evidence about this – we all laugh about YouTube viewing levels of Twit shows, but I still think 95% of the audience downloads through podcast feeds – so, a lot of the things we use as evidence are conjecture at best. The best forms of evidence we can get are the bits that seep through from Twit itself.

And this could be one of them. Now, I don’t know the history of Tonya’s work for Leo – she might’ve started as a producer who became a host, and so he still makes use of her show booking “skills”. Or perhaps the person who normally does the booking is off sick.

But it could also be showing that things are so tight there, they’re using a third-rate host to do a third-rate guest booking job.

I mean, if I was Leo I’d be furious at her messing up the date by a week. As he said, it’s such a shame there’s no place you can go to check on these dates. If you’re booking guests you have to be absolutely 100% certain of what events are happening on what date.

    Anyway, it’s looking pretty bad.

I wonder if Leo’s denial is deep enough that he can’t see what’s going on, or if at some level he can see how much damage he’s done.

I guess when OMGChad and before him Eileen Rivera were Leo’s producers they did the booking. For a while that super Asian Nicole Lee might have booked some people.

But none of that really matters, the problem is that they don’t hire any professionals. They hire whoever is hanging around and that leads to a shitty business. Add to that non-stop ads for junk products, and a host (Leo) who is so visibly bored and constantly pausing to look for things to say and you get an something that is barely watchable.

I also wonder how much his boredom has to do with the fact that his ego isn’t being fed nearly as much anymore. Things like not having a studio audience to want to get photos with him after, that sort of thing.

I agree with many, not all, of the points that have been made here, since I first found this site, maybe 6 months ago.

Why do I have a feeling that TWiT will shut down completely when their current lease is up, and they do not move into a new location?

Because the lease is up in a little more than a month and they do not have a new space.

they can stay put in the current space until April 2017, which is what will happen. Then they shutter. What we are seeing is needless drama.

Except they take on 2/3 more $$$ in rent!

How is that even a question for Inside TwiT ? I mean that’s not even a question. Are we done here? We’re done here.

          Tada!

I have been championing this exact thesis since November. I believe this will happen.

      or

They pay a higher rent to stretch the business to September which is an option as well. It makes no sense but neither did the decision to never acquire the brickhouse building.

Leo’s ego may make this second theory a viable bet as well.

      1. I don’t know – there is definitely money left to wring out from this enterprise, and I find it hard to imagine them leaving it on the table and just closing up shop. I think we are more likely to see a return to the cottage days, in terms of scale, # of employees and # of shows. They can’t sell the business, because the business is Leo talking to people about tech so what is there to sell unless Leo comes along?

  22. Tonya was brought on as a producer and offered her own show as well. Then switched to just producer when Mavericks was cancelled. She got good guests on that show, but her live hosting was its weakest link. I would have swapped in a different host and see if it sparked with that.

If Leo wants a better panel, he should be part of the selection each week. It’s a 10 minute meeting once a week to review and give his feedback.

This is what happens when you say “Your in charge baby, take care of it” It’s too late for Leo to save his dream.

    1. I think you are misinterpreting the reason Leo appears to care about guests. If he really cared then he’d offer JCD $2000 or more and it would be a hard offer to refuse. That would solve the problem. That’s not the way Leo sees it and he thinks he just needs functional guests like Andy Inathko who can talk and talk and talk without being asked a lot of questions or without Leo having to draw it out of them.

You have seen these recent shows. Some boring fuck has to be grilled by Leo to get him to say anything. This is actual work that Leo does not want to do as others have pointed out.

I’m actually shocked that Inhatko isn’t on more often. Chatterbox dingbat Christina Warren also serves this purpose.

  23. The problem with Andy, and as much as he may know about what he chatters on about, he can’t get out of the way of his tongue. It’s painful to listen to him blabber on and on and on…. Plus, his non sequitur lines of thought and stories drives a pitch fork into the conversation. I just want to pound my head, bare handed, with a cholla cactus when he starts blabbing.

    1. There’s that and the fact that he has not come to terms that he is a closeted homosexual.

COME OUT, Andy, COME OUT… There’s so many men that want to have their way with your sexy mutton chops!

      1. Is it that Andy is gay, or that he’s a 13 year old nerd boy in a man’s body?

I mean with all the comic books, movies, TV shows, photography and computers he can’t have time for wimminz.

        1. You may be on to something. He seems sad too, another indication that he is closeted. I think at least half the guests are gay or should be gay including Leo. The women are all dikes for sure and I think Lisa is bi for sure. But let’s look. Gizfiz — admitted gay. Steve Gibson — gay. Myriam the boy/girl — totally gay. Chad — gay. Christina Warren — asexual. McCrackem – asexual. Om Malik — gay. Roller derby girl Serenity — lesbian. Tim Stevens — gay. Jason Hiner — bisexual. Padre – come on! Tom Merrit — married and straight and had to go. Ihnatko — totally gay. Oh Doctah — down low. Scoble — admitted gay. Will Harris — flaming gay. On and on.

          It all makes sense.

    2. I generally like Andy, but his incessant use of analogy, simile and metaphor drives me crazy. He drones on and on, especially about the thing du jour he’s interested in at the moment (Hamilton, Bobs Burgers — all good things). And I can’t stand to read his columns and reviews. He constantly mentions how many words he’s written, like the sheer number is evidence of quality. That’s the sign of a bad writer. Brevity is the soul of wit, Andy. A focused and concise writer, he is not. Get to the point!!

  24. The saddest aspect of all this to me is that Leo has become a classic example of the middle-aged man cliché. I have an uncle who’s life pretty much imploded the same way. He left his wife of over 20 years and the mother of their three children right at the height of his professional career. He remarried a much younger co-worker, moved into an opulent penthouse, and bought a luxury car. A few years later it all came crumbling down, with his young wife leaving him with a boat load of debt, his relationship with his kids ruined, and his friendships burned to the ground. Now he’s a sick and sad senior citizen who can’t afford to retire. I can see Leo’s fall from grace coming, and it won’t be a pretty sight.

      Calcanus = arrogant bitch boy
      Myriam… I hate him, her ….err. *it*
      Harry McCracken…hate her
Clayton Morris = arrogant. Cheated on his first wife to get his second. Would have gotten the shit kicked out of him in my schoolyard.
Robert Scoble = asswipe. Should spend more time with autistic son.
Ben Thompson = You gotta fucking be kidding me!!!! He’s the loser who had to go to Taiwan to get a wife. His health habits are like Christina Warren: greasy hair, etc.
Ohm Malike will put you to sleep

      I add as horrible:

      Roller derby girl
      Gay Ihnatko
      Georgia the fraudulent shrink
Renee Richards with those bad teeth
Thurrot with the badly dyed hair
Jeff Jarvis – speaking of bad teeth
      Alex Wilhelm the Kraut

      Only good guest was JCD.

  26. Christina IS a motomouth. I have found JCD the perfect counterpoint to Leo . Lately it does seem to be the same guests over and over and ALWAYS CW. Who, once she starts talking never shuts up. I miss JCD and his wise cracking thou the worst show was JCD and Jody Odell ( that was REALLY BAD )
Some valid points here among all the trolling .. I learned a lot from this. I was searching for “Christina Warren motormouth” and found this blog. ( I always fast forward when she starts and several times just stopped listening completely) I was also wondering why JCD was not on any more. If any one has the details aside from what I picked up here, I would like to hear. I think you folks bring up great points but all the anti gay and hatefull stuff as fun as it is for you all doing this trolling makes the valid stuff seem like it gets taken as Ben would say “off the table” really “he had to go to Taiwan to find a wife” what does that have to do with any thing?

    1. Total Drama does have it’s fair share of homophobes, misogynists, a very few apparent racists and those taking snipes at people’s appearance, often about their teeth (must be an American fixation I think). But generally the hatred is aimed fairly and squarely at Leo Laporte and his whore Lisa Laporte (nee Kentzell).
Open comments on most blogs are the same, just how it goes without moderation (censorship).
