Gum and PadreSJ are banned from hosting “This Week in Tech”

Where are my facts?  Where is my proof? This is pure speculation!

My facts are my eyes and my proof is my reason. Here’s the facts, Jack:

  • For a decade now, #Soupguzzler has taken multiple vacations.
  • Spare TWiT hosts always fill in (Merritt, Lane, Padre, Gum etc.).
  • All of a sudden, outsiders are substitute hosting the weekly TWiT.
  • PadreSJ would do anything, even help the wretched poor, to host. We know he wasn’t busy.
Would you rather a unrelated pic of Shannon Morse or another Padre pic.
Would you rather see an unrelated pic of Shannon Morse or another Padre pic? I made my choice.

So use your brain…what happened? What changed? Why all of a sudden are they begging Becky and Kevin Rose to host? Maybe the TD premise is accurate. Maybe ratings are down. Maybe they are getting desperate. If you disagree, then buy another TWiT shirt.

Wake up kids, Rome is burning.

*Note: In the interest of saving space “the lovely and talented Sarah Lane” was referred to as “Lane” in paragraph 2 line 2. God forgive me but format matters

  1. Well…TWiT is the networks #1 draw, the in-house hosts of yore actually offered something filling in for soup… Not so with the present crop of hosts. Leo is scared the remaining dozen or so viewers that haven’t seen TNT or BYB will flee and his CPM’s will drop to zero. Any time Drama can promote Snubs ahead of Padre or Gum, you have my vote.

  2. I don’t have any solid opinion on this topic about whether Leo is banning some of his staff from hosting TWIT but I do want to give a thumbs up for Becky Worley this past Sunday. Listening to her host the show instead of Leo was much less aggravating. She moved the show along from topic to topic with a minimum of unnecessary off-topic blabbering along with a notable respect for the other guests — instead of frequently interrupting or over-talking when someone else is trying to make some comment she was really adept at calling out one of the other guests when she sensed they wanted to say something.
But even if this past TWIT wasn’t more concise and focused, at the very least one nice thing was I didn’t have to hear Leo do his annoying and pandering ‘Bloomberg Business Week’ imitation.

    1. Some people really know how to run a panel – like Tom Merritt. Even Andy Ihnatko does better at moderating than Leo Laporke.

      1. I agree, Leo gets away with a lot because he is entertaining and smart but he is, in reality, pretty bad at running a panel. He will notice if someone hasnt said anything in a while and give the quieted guest the floor but other than that…. He uses the panel to fill time between his own orations. Usually he needs the guests to talk so he can read the article he never read. If something pops into his head he overthrows the talking guest mid-sentence. Very few guests have the spine to shut him up when they want to talk.

  3. Shannon although pleasing to veiw is yet another Patreon beggar. Maybe I misunderstood patreon. I always thought it was for people who had potential to give them a start. Not for them to toss it to the wind.
Worley did OK. She’s more focused, does not have senseless ramblings and shows a pro side.

Twit is such a freaking trainwreck. I so used to enjoy it.

    1. Between Leo’s dog, Leo’s wife and something of Leo’s Padre might be stroking, I’m having trouble parsing which which is which.

  4. Leo needs outside people to host TWIT because the in house talent sucks terribly. I might have to watch TWIT from last week. Padre and Gum doing everything else is just mind numbing. Also since TWIT is the flagship, I’m not that surprised he got outside people to do it. Back when Tom Merritt was in house, he was an awesome replacement for Leo when on vacation or where ever he was. It’s just funny and sad that TWIT network is left with a crappy skeleton crew. It goes to show you the mentality that Leo and Lisa have, they sometimes don’t care as long as the money keeps flowing.

    Thanks TD

    1. Leo has two big problems. His reputation as a complete asshat is getting around, and if he hasn’t burned a bridge already, then people are onto the fact that Leo might not be worth the hassle. Leo’s star is fading in the tech podcast space, he doesn’t have the weight he used to, if he ever did. His actual fat ass is developing just find though. Secondly, he’s a cheapskate who prioritizes spending on vacations and stuffing his face.

  5. I didn’t notice any jump in Tom Merritts patreon from his appearance on twit. (Quite the opposite actually) which shows the piss poor reach of the audience.

      1. If you were hacked, the site would be down or gone. Not one post deleted. You of course can’t prove it, but calling somebody those names in public like that might be slander. Careful.

    1. It seems like TotalDrama doesn’t know what it wants to be. It lurches from wanting to appeal to intelligent adults by exposing or highlighting the many fault lines of TWiT to scatterbrained nonsense written in crayon by and for seriously disturbed male adolescents for whom, for example, the one thousandth pornographic genitalia metaphor remains as humorous and titillating as when it was seen for the first time .

  7. Usually people who can’t have one hate people who can. As I see it, Leo is almost 60 and it’s about time he can start enjoying his life. He doesn’t need to work every waking moment. You can tell his mindset and his life are transitioning from working all the time to something more casual.

    1. “Usually people who can’t have one hate people who can.” That, in a nutshell, describes the cast and crew of TotalDrama. In IRC, the resentment and jealousy run so thick they could be cut with a knife.

      1. Yeah. Leo deserves what be has. He may or may not have made a mistake by leaving his wife. Its his life and. Company to screw up. Who cares. Who knows what his home life was like with his ex.

          1. Oh, for Christ’s sake. This whole site would just be constructive criticism (which Leo would get for free, I might add) were it not for Leo’s pathological need for attention. Now, we point at him and laugh because he’s just a pathetic sloth with no self-control.

Remember when Lisa said her goal was to gradually move Leo off of the shows? He should have let her do that, and paid the good people he had on his network to take over as he stepped back.

It would be different if Leo added something to the shows he’s on, but he’s just disruptive. Every so often, he says something really funny, but we listeners have to endure weeks of inappropriate sexist lame bullshit for that one nugget of humor. It’s just not worth it.

The people who start a business aren’t usually the best ones to grow it. Lisa may be wrong about a lot of things, but she was right about this, and Leo should have listened to her.

  8. The good news – Becky was a breath of fresh air last Sunday – an actual show about technology that wasn’t filled with faux voices, rambling nonsensical stories and insults spewed in every direction.

The bad news – a pity the dreadful Gum ruined the return of Gina to TWiG. Lawd he is awful.

Leo needs to get some new talent in-house!

  9. Can’t say I’m a Shannon Morse fan – occasionally kinda cute, but dumb as a pile of rocks. Maybe if she had a flat head I would find her useful.

  10. Lisa Bettany was clearly the gold standard of TWIT women, of course. Who are we stuck with now? Well, we have Megan “Eyebrows” Morrone with that stereotypical short-haired, middle-aged haircut reflective of her boring nature. And today for the second time, I saw Kelly Guimont on Macbreak Weekly, a woman of indeterminate race, with hugely bad, seemingly unwashed hair and well in need of a huge amount of dental work.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen!

    1. This is like complaining that tech news is a rarity on YouPorn or trenchant political analysis is too often lacking on TMZ.

Holden continues to reveal his racism by listing alongside bad teeth and bad hair “indeterminate race” as a feature he does not like women to have in his fantasy life. In the non-racist world where Holden is a stranger in a strange land, multi-racial features are not considered unattractive and multi-racial women are sometimes the most beautiful.

        » Quote comment

      1. Frank: When I mention that she is of “indeterminate race,” I’m stating an opinion. Maybe I like multi-racial people. Maybe I don’t. Maybe * I’m* multi-racial. You have no idea since you don’t know me. My point is that these women aren’t one-millionth as hot – and classy – as Lisa Bettany.

And how do you know that I’m male?

        Assumptions, assumptions….

        1. I know “Holden” on TD by his prior comments and IRC posts with this comment being typical. Holden’s comments mostly focus on women’s appearance and are rife with racist and crypto-racist remarks, including but not limited to slurs against Tom Merritt’s Filipino wife, Blacks on TWiT, and all Germans.

Case in Point: After Holden denounced a “German” TWiT chatter for the crime of being German (the chatter was actually Swiss – but that error is another story for another time) he doubled down when challenged and told us he flat-out despised all Germans living today in 2015, because of WWll. All rightee.

          1. Frank: Toms wife is Spanish, I believe. Yes she’s not attractive, but so are many white and other women. No racism there at all.

The German ‘chatter’ to which u refer was actually moderating the giz wiz chat room using Nazi tactics. Hence, I called him a Nazi.

If you’re going to quote me, at least get your facts straight.

Holden: Chad, what’s up with your Nazi chat moderator
JimJam: “[Beatmaster is] also German, which makes your post even better.”
Holden: “hee hee. A wonderful unintended consequence!!”
Holden: “A family relation fought during the Second World War in Austria and Germany, until the fall of Berlin in 1945. He killed plenty of Germans during that time. He still does not trust them, nor do I.”
